As most of you probably know by now about 8 days ago I made a commitment on Twitter that I wouldn’t post a tweet again until ETH hit its all time high price (which is $1,420 as per Coinbase). At the time of sending this tweet, the ETH price was hovering around $1,300 and I thought to myself “this will be a fun little game to play because surely ETH is going to hit ATH in a day or 2” - oh how very wrong I was.
I’m not going to sugar coat it - not being able to tweet has been way harder than I thought it would be. For those who follow me on there, you’d know that I’m a prolific tweeter and absolutely love engaging with the community on there in all sorts of ways. I sort of think of myself as both a cheerleader for Ethereum and ETH as well as a community shepherd. On top of this, I also use Twitter as a marketing vehicle for all of the work I do so it’s been a bit painful not being able to tweet out anything about that (and no, tweeting from the @thedailygwei account is not cheating)!
I’m sure by now you’ve all seen the countless memes people have been putting out about my inability to tweet and personally I’m enjoying them very much. If I’m being honest, it’s pretty wild to see the community rallying around something as mundane as me not being able to tweet. It’s actually quite heartening as well because it shows that all of the work I’ve put into helping the community over the years really means something and even when I’m not tweeting my spirit still lives on. Okay, okay, enough tooting my own horn - just wanted to share that I really appreciate all of the love!
Outside of myself becoming a meme, there are countless other examples of “influencers” or people with large followings in crypto embodying something that transcends them. Recently, it was Ivan on Tech coining the term “respecting the pump” which has since permeated across all of crypto and become infinitely resuable to describe the state of the markets. I find this so fascinating from a virality point of view because literally all of crypto knew about this term within 24-48 hours. This further speaks to just how powerful memes are on the internet and especially within crypto as things like early project success can often be attributed to a great early meme culture. After all, meme magic is real.
For now, I’ll keep “enjoying” my self-imposed Twitter silence because I made a commitment and I plan to stick to it - what is a man without his word? Though, I think that there’s a decent chance that by the time you receive Monday’s Daily Gwei newsletter, I will be posting to Twitter again.
Have a great weekend everyone,
Anthony Sassano
